The Origin of Coffee

From the desk of Dixie Rose:

Now, when your feet first touch the floor in the morning and you are groggily making your way to the coffee pot, you probably aren’t thinking about where coffee came from or who discovered the magic stuff. But the origins of coffee are really rather interesting, and after you have finished that first cup, you might like to know how it happened that you have a cup of coffee to get your day started off right. There are several versions of how coffee was discovered.

One story is that a sheep herder from Caffa Ethopia named Kaldi noticed that when his sheep ate red “cherries” from a certain plant, they became very active. The sheep would have been bouncing off the walls, had there been walls. The sheep (More...)

Types of Coffee Makers

From the desk of Dixie Rose:

Mankind (and womankind) has been drinking coffee for thousands of years. There are several stories about how the coffee bean was discovered and by whom, but it doesn’t really matter much. Today coffee is brewed and severed in countries around the world.Coffee is named many times for the region in which the beans are grown; Blue Jamaican Coffee, for example. Sometimes, though, coffee is named for the country or area that brews it; Turkish coffee, Italian coffee, etc. Coffees are varied, and so are the methods used for brewing it.

Turkish Briki: The coffee that is used in the Briki is powdered. It takes between 7 and 11 minutes to make a cup of coffee using the Briki. The coffee is very strong but clear.

Various Popular Brands And Types Of Coffee Percolators

The coffee percolator is the original coffee brewing tool during the early years.A coffee percolator is a tool used in brewing or preparing coffee. A coffee percolator is dangerous to use because it easy to over extract the coffee bean thus making bitter coffee with unpleasant taste and aroma.

When a coffee is seeped or percolated well, the water may never quite reach the boiling point and the coffee may be made strong. The hot water seeps or percolates throughout the coffee and grounds eventually drop back down into the bottom chamber. Connected to the chamber is a cylinder that runs to the bottom of the coffee pot or percolator.

Some companies create electric coffee percolators with a sophisticated control that are designed to make excellent coffee possible. The heating device could be stovetop or electrical. Nowadays, most percolators use glass to see the percolation process.

Coffee Maker Cleaning

From the desk of Dixie Rose:

There are as many opinions about what a great cup of coffee consists of as there are coffee drinkers in the world. Every coffee drinker knows exactly what he or she wants in a good cup of coffee. Some like it hot, some like it cold, but very few like it in a pot nine days old – as the old nursery rhyme goes.

The one thing that all coffee drinks will agree on is that coffee needs to be freshly made. About the only other thing that coffee drinkers will agree on is that the best coffee is made in a clean coffee maker. The pot doesn’t need to be “well seasoned.” It needs to be well cleaned after every use.

There are a great many coffee-pot-cleaning products out (More...)

The Best Coffee Maker – A Free Coffee Maker?

When you think of what the idea of the perfect coffee maker do you think of one that cost hundreds of dollars? What do you think of when you think of that perfect cup of coffee? To me the concept of a free coffee maker sounds best because its – well, free. Stop and ask yourself what a $500 coffee pot can do for you that a cheaper free coffee pot can’t do? Hopefully you answered; nothing.

I’ve seen hundreds of coffee pots and coffee maker deals that I simply cannot understand. The idea of a coffee pot costing hundreds of dollars to me just seems absurd. Don’t get me wrong I understand that art of a classic espresso machine with all the bells and whistles. I also understand the concept of a french (More...)
